Facility Planning Services
Facility Expansion, Consolidation, or Reorganization
Are you Expanding into a larger facility or looking at the feasibility of an additional facility?
Are you Consolidating two or more facilities into one facility?
Kemp Systems can provide concept level comparisons with the advantages and disadvantages of each option -
with our "Quick Concept" program and our data-based layout / planning program
(the Space Flow System)
Do you have space and congestion problems and need to Re-organizing your facilities?
Kemp Systems has work with many different size and different type companies to solve these type of problems.
Our experience includes facilities that are 20,000 to 750,000+ square feet in size.
We have worked with small companies in various industries in the Midwest to large international companies like GE and Caterpillar
Many of our projects include material handling systems that are automated, mechanized or use traditional fork lifts and rack / shelving storage equipment.
Facility Layout Services
Layout New Facilities and New Material Handling Systems
Compare and Select New Material Handling Equipment
• Traditional Equipment:
• Fork Lifts
• Racks
• Shelving
• Visual Controls

• Mechanized and Automated Systems:
• Automated Guided Vehicles
• Automated Storage/Retrieval Systems
• Bar Code Systems
• Carousels
• Conveyors
• Palletizers
• Shuttle Storage for small parts
• Sortation Systems

• Inventory Control and Data Collection Systems
• Warehouse Management
• Location Systems
Our Space Flow System can create reports based on areas of the layout or on data analysis queries. The Reports help quantify current conditions and projected storage / handling conditions.
Reorganize Existing Facilities
Kemp Systems can provide improvements and adjustments to your existing facility by making:
• Layout changes to equipment and production areas
• Inventory adjustments
• Operation Improvements
• Assembly, Shipping, Receiving, Picking, Packing, Cycle Counting
• Location Systems for storage, overflow and staging
• Visual Controls for space flexibility and work load balancing
Fast & Slow moving inventory can be identified (color coded) and listed in the Space Flow Layout. Fast movers can be moved closer to the dock doors; and slow movers can be consolidated and stored in the less active areas.
Implementation Support
Making changes to your facility requires an “Implementation Plan”. Without an Implementation Plan, you can
spend months rearranging and looking for lost inventory. The basis for a good Implementation Plan includes:
• A new location system
• Labeling all items to be moved with their new location
• A schedule of what will be moved when, where and by whom
Kemp Systems can provide “Move-To Layouts" and “Move-To Lists" with locations tags for equipment and inventory. An Implementation Plan is your best investment before "the move".
Mini Studies
Mini Studies are similar to our regular Planning Projects except there is less design data gathered and the project is completed in a shorter period of time. Typical Mini Studies compare various concepts, layouts, capacities and budget pricing. If one or more concepts look attractive, the Mini Study can be expanded into a standard project .
The Comparison Chart below, can be included as one of the project deliverables for a Mini Study or for a regular Planning Project. The Comparison Chart illustrates, on one page, alternative capacities and budget pricing versus projected business growth over time.
